| Work description for the warehouse workers who sorts heavy packages on a belt.: It is not in the office. The climate is tough, the environment is dirty. The job is for strong people, the job is for quick. You sort, pull, and push packages, that is all what you do. You stand and you are ready for struggle with flow. The buzz of the factory is a typical power engine buzz. It is like a howl, not a classical music. The flow of packages is like waves of the storm or winds of the thunder. Sometimes, it is light, sometimes is heavy. The belt line runs fast and you put the label on top, push or pull package, it depends on the label. Dozens, hundreds of packages in few minutes, Swimming in tough waters or flying in storm. Waves are coming, winds are blowing. Strong back, strong muscles, eyes which see how flow is going. Strong as lion, quick as eagle, smart like human Men chase packages like dogs which hunter. It is part time job, 4 hours a day 10 minutes for break, and a freedom to quit. The choice is all yours. What else? Dress code is ok. You can wear whatever you want, whatever makes you happy. T-shirts and jeans is fine, just wear steel shoes. Why steel shoes? Because they say so. I think they are right. Package can fall on your feet, it may hurt toes, bones, fingers, it is safety issue. The time for work is sunrise, 4am -8am is typical hours. That’s job in nutshell. How much do they pay you? 8 dollars per hour, plus health benefits, not bad for young fellow. What are other rewards? Back aches is just flowers. The berries and meat of the job is hurt muscles, damaged ankles, other injuries. Warehouse is number one industry in injuries, do you like it or not. Just work safely. Think what you are doing, don’t run like a horse. It is your health afterwards. Other perks are bad cops, drunks and crazy drivers at nights. I got few tickets for driving too slowly, not wearing belt. That’s what the police told me. I think it is because I am Hispanic, my car is a little bit old, plus bad time for driving. |
