Ukrain in December 2004. Who should be the president of the Ukrainian people? The one who is approved by the Ukrainian people? Who got the most votes? Viktor Yanukovich or Viktor Yuchenko? Who knows, who cares? They are both corrupt, both Victors. For the average Joe Shmoe, it is no difference. One is former premier minister, another one is current. The looser says that elections are fraud; Current Ukrainian government is criminal mafia, and so on, and so forth. Sure, when you are out of power, those who are in power are bad guys. This is not new news for me. What is the worth the attention is the attention. Attention from power, attention from Russia, EU, USA. All are involved, all take sides, and blame each other. What are the reason? Why do they care so much what is going on in one state? US and EU are for Ychenko, government opposition “We want clean election, pro western democracy, honest new government, Ukranian integration with West, USA, NATO, EU membership.” Bush and EU cry outloud. “Ukranian should speak Ukranian, it is their country, not Russian. Ychenko is from Western Ukraine, so he must be pro-western….” What are Russians are saying? The same thing, but in Russian: “Ukraine is for Ukraine, election should be flawless, government honest, law should prevail; blah, blah, blah….” What is going on the streets, in the cities? In Kiev, governmet is paralyzed. Oranges, orange flags, rock groups, youth groups, all yell at each other. Some yell in Ukranian, some swear in Russian. It is getting cold, and protesters need medical attention, they are getting sick and depressed. For how long should we wait for decision? One day? One week? Months? Years? Ukraine is country with zero, one, two, or three presidents on the same time? Is it a joke, injustice or what? What else are Ukrainians thinking and feeling? Eastern, Southern Ukrainians, ethnic Russians are for Yanukovich, Russian language and trade. Some Western Ukrainians have reputation of fascists and Anti-Semites. They made pogroms in past, they try to burn or tear apart anything Russian or Jewish. Some Jewish cemeteries are vandalized, Russian churches are broken. If they are real democrats, I am no longer a Jew, Iraq invaded US, and everything is upside down. What are the real hidden reasons for such care and justice? Business contracts, military contracts, oil, land, and produce… No one wants to loose the share of Ukrainian cake, EU and US want to expand their business, Russia is still the great power, and it is not going to sell Ukraine to the West for few bucks, not even for thousand dollars. Business is business, Russia gave up Alaska, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, so much land for such small money. Enough is ENOUGH. My thoughts are with ordinary people, for those who want peace, not confrontation, and innocent blood. Stop poison each other, and start building strong country with Russian and Ukranian language and culture. These languages are very similar, and we should understand each other with no problem. We are Eastern Slavs, in Kiev and Moscow. Jews, Germans, Gypsies are our neighbors. They are Russians and Ukranian citizens. It should be enough place for all people. Talent should flock to the country, not leave. For over ten, twenty years, a lot of Jews, Germans, ethnic minorities, talent are leaving Ukraine. It is not good; it is bad for the country. The key for the progress is balance and center, not kill Russian trade, but expend to the west. Import finished goods to the West, not talent and pretty girls, and raw materials. There is no need to kill each other over language accent and dialect. You know the West, they are involved not because they are kind and honest. West may give loans, not free grants. All have their own interests.
